Cockpit Band is a legendary Indonesian progressive rock band formed in 1983 that achieved elite status as the ultimate tribute band for the British rock icon Genesis and its legendary member Phil Collins. Instead of relying on original tracks, they captured the hearts of Indonesian rock fans through their incredibly precise, theatrical, and top-tier live interpretations of progressive rock epics.
🎸 The Golden Era (1980s)
The band evolved from a previous project called Batara Band in the early 1980s. The classic lineup featured:
Freddy Tamaela (Lead Vocals) – Renowned for his theatrical stage presence and a vocal style that perfectly mirrored both Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins.

During the 1980s, Cockpit became a major stadium-filling act in Indonesia, famous for their signature "Genesis Night" concerts across cities like Jakarta, Bandung, and Surabaya. They rarely recorded original material, though they did release a singular track titled "Diana" on the 1991 Logiss Records compilation album 10 Top Rank Super Group.
⚡ Passing the Torch: Cockpit+ (2026)
Following the passing of key original members like Yaya Moektio and Raidy Noor over the years, the band's legacy faced a sudden halt. However, in April 2026, the band announced a major regeneration.
The biological children of the original members—Rama Yaya Seputra Moekti (son of Yaya) and Nada Noor (son of Raidy)—joined forces with veteran members and new musicians to form Cockpit+. The updated unit officially debuted on May 1, 2026, at the Glitz Inclusive Lounge in Kuningan City Mall, South Jakarta, keeping the flame of progressive rock and Genesis tribute alive for a new generation.
